Time To Close The Shop

A couple of weeks ago the partners of Always In Stitches met to discuss the future of Always In Stitches. We all love the shop very much and enjoy being in the shop and working. We talked about how many new quilters have come into the shop and gotten hooked on quilting. We talked about the great relationships we have formed over the past six years and what we have accomplished, and how proud we are of those accomplishments. We talked about our industry and the cost of cotton and fabric and our customers' buying habits. We talked about the state of the economy and the volume of fabric some of our customers have.

We then started talking about how tired we are, how some of us have some medical issues that need to be addressed, and how we have some traveling and family visits we would like to enjoy. We talked about how we want to spend time with our families on the weekends and in the evenings. We even reflected on our good friends that are our age with ill husbands and how short life is. This is when we decided that it is time to take a break. It is time to slow down a little bit and enjoy life while we have the opportunity. Unfortunately, in order to do these things we realized that the time has come to close the shop.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to meet so many great quilters and make so many new friends. We are so proud of the number of quilters that have emerged from our shop. We appreciate the patience you've shown over the last few months while we tried to transition into a partnership. We apologize if we offended any of you for that was never our intention.

We know that we will continue to see some of you as we will now have some time to sit and quilt and we look forward to those times.

Beginning Saturday, September 10, 2011 everything in the store is 25% off. We need to sell all of the fixtures and furniture, including tables and chairs. Any samples that are not owned by our staff or customers will be sold. Over the next couple of weeks we will continue to mark down our merchandise while it lasts, but I have a feeling that it will go fast.

If you are participating in one of our block-of-the-month programs, don't worry -- we are cutting all of the blocks so that you can get the rest of them when you come in. We will be here until the end of October and will continue to host the various groups until then. Our last Block Swappers Club swap will be due October 10th, and distributed on the 15th along with suggested layouts for your use.

If you are a member of the book club, fat quarter guild, free motion quilting group, etc. don't worry for we have plenty of time to make arrangements for future meetings.

Over the next couple of weeks we will keep you posted as to what merchandise is still available.

Free Demonstrations at the Good Time Quilters Show

Faux Piping (in white)

We have been very busy getting ready for our booth at the Goodtime Quilters QuiIt show. We are focusing on smaller kits for quick gifts and small wall hangings for instant gratification. We will have all kinds of kits, patterns, and other you-know-you-gotta-have items.

During the show there is a constant stream of free demonstrations by guild members and vendors. All of the demos sound interesting, some of the titles include 30 minute table runner, continuous prairie points, template free appliqué, twisted bow tie, no pain quilt basting, charm quilts, quilter's caddy. On Friday Deb will be showing the CrabApple Hill coloring and embroidery technique. On Thursday I am going to demo the quick casserole carrier, and if you have not seen or made faux piping binding, you will be amazed by how easy it is to do. KyleAnn Williams and Karen Lane will be demonstrating this technique at the upcoming Goodtime Quilters Quilt Show in Circleville this Thursday at 1:00. No registration is needed - just come to the quilt show at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 135 E. Mound Street, Circleville, enjoy all the beautiful quilts and other items made by Guild members. most demonstrations will include a handout with step-by-step pictures. Did we mention the guild members have a great sale room. They are getting rid of their old fabric so that they can buy new stuff. Great place to get a lot of good deals.

KyleAnn has been very busy, too, creating a blog for an online quilt-along! Click here for details. The book she is featuring right now (Country Threads Goes to Charm School) is available through the shop for a limited time. We also have charm square packs similar to those featured on her new blog.

Even with all the activity in Circleville, we are open Friday 10 - 5 and Saturday 10 - 4. We are going to be closed Sunday and Monday for the holiday! Be sure and stop in and see us!

The Goodtime Quilters of Circleville, Ohio are having their annual quilt show on THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY (September 1-3).

9-5 THUR.&FRI.

9-4:30 SAT.

$5.00 DONATION

There are a handful of vendors at the show and Always in Stitches will have a booth there with many fun kits, patterns, and other you-know-you-gotta-have items.

Master quilter for 2011, Nellie Wright, will have a special display of her quilts.

There will be nearly 200 beautiful quilts for you to enjoy, including other small items and accessories. For those who arrive early (because it all goes quickly!), there is a sales room where you will find various things for sale, such as fabric pieces, books/patterns, and completed items. Throughout each day there will be various demos, including how to make faux piping binding; painless, pinless quilt basting, and much more.

Their 2011 raffle quilt was entered in the 2011 national Quilting Association Show and received an Honorable Mention ribbon! Raffle tickets are available at the show for $1 each or 6 for $5. You do not need to be present to win. Several other quilted items will also be raffled.

In my opinion, the picture on this pattern does not do the quilt justice. There are countless variations of quilts you can make using this technique, and Vicki will walk you through several of those. We’ve got all kinds of things going on at the shop right now – and we want YOU to be part of the fun!

Tomorrow evening (Thursday, 8/11) is our SEWING CIRCLE club at 6:00 – hope to see you here for that! Bring whatever you want to work on, projects you need help with, ideas to share … this is an “open forum” club and everyone is welcome.

This Saturday (8/13) is our “FINISH IT!” late-night sew-in at the shop – instead of doing a Mystery project, bring project(s) you want to finish. Your cost for “FINISH IT! Night”? Bring a potluck dish to share – that’s it!

Our six-week “Complete Quilting for Beginners” class concluded yesterday, and look at the beautiful quilts some of the students made:

Wow, what a great shop hop! It was awesome seeing quilters from all over the United States. We have been busy and we love it! Thanks you for all of the support, and the kind words and notes we have recieved. It is so nice to know that even with all of the other venues (Cincinnati International Show, Columbus NQA, Other area shop hops, etc.) quilters still have time and money to support the local shops. Thanks so much, we really appreciate it!

Thanks to the Thimble Berries Club from Missouri for visiting and having dinner with us. That was really a fuun evening!

Thanks also to the Honey Bees from Medina for visiting with us last Thursday. We love having buses and large groups in the shop! If you are thinking about a guild or group bus trip call us. We will help plan your day.

I am so excited about the Maison Bag class coming up on July 28. Come join me from 11:00 to 4:00 as Patty Estadt teaches us how to make this great purse that is SO easily customized to seasons, holidays, even outfits just by putting a different "skirt" on it. Call the shop, or better yet, come in to register and to get the supply list.

FREE MOTION QUILTING CLUB
On Saturday, July 16, from 10:30 - 12:30, Patty will motivate and empower individual quilters to improve their confidence and technique with free motion quilting on a home sewing machine. Come learn, visit, and share your own ideas.

Bring:

paper and pencil for sketching
machine with free motion/darning foot attached
scissors to snip threads
contrasting thread and bobbin to match
rotary ruler to draw lines on fabric
marking chalk/pencil/marker

Tuesday, July 19, 6:00-8:00 - Complete Quilting for Beginners (part 3 of 5)

Vintage Trick or Treat, 6:00-8:00 - Vintage Trick or Treat (part 4 of 6)

The second Saturday of each month IS A MYSTERY!
First of all, what is Mystery nite? Well, I am glad you asked! When you sign up for Mystery Nite, you are given the yardage requirements and basic cutting instructions for a quilt - that you have not seen. Sometimes the shop will put together kits from which you can choose, and for a small fee, the shop will cut for you. Then, on Mystery Nite (the 2nd Saturday of each month), you set up your machine, get out your fabric, and receive the first step in making your quilt. The first step? Of what quilt? That's the mystery! As you complete each step, you receive the next step, until you have them all and your quilt is finished.
A large part of the fun is the fellowship with other quilters who may have chosen vastly different colors/prints. It is SO interesting to see how they all look.

However, sometimes a Mystery participant has a last minute baby-blanket that they just HAVE to get done - and the only time they have available to work on it is Mystery Nite. Or they need motivation, even tho the baby shower is on Sunday - the next day. To accommodate this and other sewing/quilting needs, we have come up with the following:

Mystery night with pattern and fabric and dinner $55
Mystery night pattern with dinner $35
Mystery night dinner only $10
Mystery night space only (no dinner, no pattern etc) $5

Now that we have that all straightened out, let's look at August - Mystery Finish It Nite. The only charge for Mystery Finish It Nite is a potluck item. But don't forget to call or come in and register!

Hi Everyone,
As you all remember, Joan has volunteered to show us how to color fabric with Sharpie (or any type of permanent markers) and rubbing alcohol. The fun happens this Thursday - 6/30 from 6-8 pm.

Joan tells me this can be a bit smelly, so we may want to go outside or upstairs and open the windows....

Everyone needs to bring:
something to protect your clothing, or old shirt
fabric... light colored and/or white
gloves, if you prefer
piece of freezer paper or al. foil (the shop has freezer paper)
sharpie markers, broad tip is great but any will work. Joan will be bringing several colors for all to use, too.
Optional: lace, ribbon, eyedropper

Joan will be bringing to share:
rubbing alcohol, sharpies in assorted colors, and miscellaneous items needed
a drop cloth in case we go outside

Hey everyone,
Well, Wednesday (our day to post to the blog) has quickly passed by this week and I did not get a post to the blog. We have so much going on at the shop, the time goes so fast. Here is a quick note to keep you up to date.

This week we received Jo Morton's new book:

This is hot off the press and we auto ship (get straight from Jo). This is not available from our regular distributor until the end of June. So let us know if you want us to hold one for you, for I foresee them going fast.

Another Auto ship that we got in during May is from NeedlLove. Expect to see a number of samples out of this book. It is gorgeous. I think we will do a strip of the month out of this book. Have your fall quilt done, just in time for fall.

We met to discuss what we want to accomplish before shop hop. Our goal is to re-do (organize) the hand embroidery area and notion area. We have some plans in the work to do some more sprucing up. I think you will really like the results. We have a boat load of new fabric, new patterns, fun kits and samples on their way. The time is going to fly.

Hey Everyone!

Sorry we haven't posted in awhile. As we mentioned before Kyle had surgery and has been out and she is our discipline in our blogs and emails. ... When Kyle's away.... (we run around and do other things!.. lol)
Hopefully she will be back in action soon!

Anyway, we have been very busy at the shop. We had a fun and busy weekend for the Quiltspree. Our In house retreat was a hoot and we will definitely do that again.

We have been focusing on our Batik corner. Here is some batiks that we just got in today.

We'll be open until 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, so wear your favorite jammies, settle in, and let's have some FUN. We'll be giving out prizes for the best jammies, and have breakfast around midnight for fortification. Whenever you've had enough, go home, sleep, shower, and come back anytime after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. And THEN ...........

... SUPER SATURDAY! May 7th, 10:00 a.m. until midnight.

In addition to all the Super Saturday fun to kick off QuiltSpree 2011, we're moving our monthly Mystery Night to this Saturday and featuring a Debbie Caffrey mystery: "Undercover in Houston". You won't want to miss SUPER SATURDAY!

It is hard to believe that April is almost over and May is here. This year is flying by. I am really looking forward to warmer and dryer weather.

Deb started a new hand embroidery group last week. they are focused on getting the Vintage Halloween project from Crab Apple Hill done.

It is cute, but I am not a hugh Halloween fan so I did not join in. But seeing everyone embroidering made me want to get started on a new project.....so........ Jenny one of our notions/fabric/everything rep. shared with me some of the newest patterns... and I found my new embroidery project, or two new embroidery projects.

Both are from Birdbrain designs, the first one is "Quilts In the Garden" and the second one is the "Redwork Stich Sampler" I think they are both cute, and I am excited about getting them started.

Jenny brought all kinds of new patterns. I have been looking for a new pin cushion pattern and I found a cute one that I think alot of people will like.

It is called "Who Knew". I have a recent graduate in mind for one of these. Can't wait to get it started too.

So many projects, so little time.

Busy, Time Flying By and Yeah Spring Just Might Be Here!

Hey Everyone!

Where does time go? The days at the shop fly by, and the time off from the shop goes even faster.
Kyle is out sick today so I am posting to the blog.

Last Thursday and Friday we hosted a bus to the International Quilt Festival. It was so much fun and so inspiring. The quilts were absolutely amazing. I took many pictures and will post some here on the blog.

This week I needed to re-create our block for the Central Ohio Shop Hop Quilt. Here is a sneak peak of our block:

Each shop has to do a 12 inch finished block that will be set with the other blocks to create a cool quilt that will be raffled off at the December Round Robin event.

We are excited about the events we have coming up. This year we are having a pajama party - in house retreat for our quilt spree event. It will start Friday, May 6 at 10:00 in the AM and last until 2:00 AM Saturday morning and then will resume Saturday at 10:00 AM untill Midnight. We will have make it - take it tables and hourly deals and steals. Pizza Friday night and a yummy dinner Saturday night (menu to be determined). Mystery Quilt, Experimenting with the Wedding Ring pattern to create a table runner, and a purse class will be our projects. $10 fee for Friday night will include Pizza and pop and the Wedding ring clinic and Saturdays $45 fee includes dinner, the mystery quilt pattern and the purse clinic.

The Mystery is Chicago X from Debbie Caffrey. We will announce the purse pattern very soon. There will be a prize for the best jammies. Expect to hear more very soon!

Ready for Spring!

Wow, Yesterday really was a wake up call. It looked like February here in Columbus/Grove City. Reminds us that even though Spring started March 20th we could still get a couple snowy days. I know that in about a month I will be complaining that it is too hot out... I am ready for those days.

We have been running around at the shop with our heads chopped off at the shop.... busy, busy, busy... and we love it. Come see some of our changes and stay tuned for more... We are evolving into the new and improved "Always In Stitches"

Are you ready for something new? Sign up for the all-new Always In Stitches "Blockswappers Club", and join us on Saturday, March 26th at 1:00 p.m. for our kick-off meeting. You can sign up over the phone, and we'll answer all your questions at the meeting. Additionally, we'll treat you to a trunk show featuring quilts made from swap blocks!

Our first swap will be a very easy, small block -- suitable for beginners and fun for everyone. You can choose your "colorway(s)" (batik, Civil War repros, or '30's repros) and the number of blocks you make will be limited only by the number of swappers we have.

We need a minimum of six (6) swappers for each colorway to have the swap. Sign-ups for the swap will be open until April 15th and blocks are due back at the shop by COB Saturday, April 30th. They'll be swapped out and ready for pick-up on Monday, May 2nd.

If you've never swapped before, you may have lots of questions -- that's a GOOD thing and we encourage you to ask them. We also encourage you to come to the meeting on March 26th and ask them so everyone can hear the answers.

So call us! We're at 614.539.7845, and we welcome "out of towners" to join our swap! You don't have to attend the meeting to join the swap -- it's just to answer questions and show off what can be done with swap blocks.

The Cottage Garden Table Runner class is being offered on Saturdays, April 30 and May 14 at 1:00-3:00 pm. You will learn new applique techniques, both adhering and sewing! If you haven't tried strip-piecing yet, we will be doing that as well. Class fee is $20.

If you missed the class on the Welcome Wagon Door Hanger, you have another chance on Saturday, May 28, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Techniques taught in this class include hand applique, yo-yos, and stem stitch (embroidery). The majority of this adorable hanger can be completed in class! Class fee is $10.

Learn to Knit - and MORE!
This 8-week class begins Saturday (Feb 12) at 10:00. For those who have never touched knitting needles before AND those who want more - you will learn the basics: cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off PLUS garter stitch, stockinette stitch, cables, lace, 3 other motifs and how to read instructions. Class fee is $50. Supplies needed: 3 skeins worsted weight yarn (medium, #4), stitch/row markers, yarn needle, cable needle. Optional: stitch/row counter. Needles available from the instructor for $11.00.

Mystery Night
We still have some seats left for Saturday night's mystery. We will be "visiting" Alaska! This month's selection is an easier quilt, selected for those who have either never done a mystery, are not yet real confident in their quilt making, or who just want a relaxing, quick but lovely quilt. Spring?? Are you there?

I am ready for Spring, Well maybe not spring because I really enjoy winter evenings by the fireplace listening to my husband snore, but at least I am ready to get rid of the ice in the parking lot, and the crazy gas bills.

We have been very busy at the shop, working on new samples, getting in new fabrics, still moving fabrics around and waiting on customers. It is good to see everyone so excited about the continued success of the shop. We are very excited.

We just got in a handful of bolts of fabric from the Oasis line by Three Sisters from Moda . I think it is really pretty and would love to make an apron or a summer skirt out of some of the fabric.

I am currently working on the starry night blocks of the month. We are doing two colorways, one is patriotic and one is in beautiful Michael Miller Krystals. I will post some pictures soon.

Where does time go?

Okay, so it has been awhile since we posted. Kyle and I were trying to post every Wednesday and then we decided that Peg would like to do this and we are having trouble transitioning.
We are working like crazy at the shop, getting stuff moved around, getting new samples done, getting blocks of the month done, designing the shop hop project. We really are having fun but it seems a little hectic.

Here are some of the good books that we recently received.

This reminds me alot of the Lori Smith quilts. Laura Henthorne is thinking about doing a quilt of the month club that will meet on Saturdays. We will keep you posted.

This is a new paper piecing book from Alex Anderson. I am going to offer a beginning paper peicing class using this book.

We're beginning our "new look!" Some of the shelves have already been moved to their new "homes" in various nooks and we are making room for the new downstairs classroom. Last week we received 200 bolts of fabric and soon we will be getting batiks from Moda Kota and some Moda Crackle.

A Path to the Civil War: Aurelia's Journey Quilt

2011 marks the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. And while conflict over slavery is generally presumed to be the cause, many issues across the nation fueled tensions that ultimately led to war. During this volatile period in American history, did women turn to their quiltmaking to take their minds off these troubling topics?

When Dolores Smith and Sarah Maxwell of Homestead Hearth found a mid-1800s antique sampler quilt, they could easily imagine the quiltmaker, Aurelia (pronounced oar-LEE-uh) Bevins of Broome, New York, did just that. Undoubtedly pieced over a long period of time based on the large number of varied fabrics it contains, it’s easy to imagine that Aurelia worked on this project off and on for many years as she witnessed a country heading toward war with itself.

Dolores and Sarah show you step-by-step, using today’s quiltmaking techniques, how you can recreate this 44-block sampler treasure. Written in block-of-the-month style, you can construct a few blocks at a time as you work to complete this project throughout 10 months. As you stitch your own Journey quilt, reflect on the journey Aurelia took as she witnessed the events leading to the war between the states.

Quite a storm in Grove City last night - but not everywhere in Grove City. The damage seemed to be centered around the Columbus Street/Hoover Road area, extending a few blocks in either direction. And that was it! Like a mini-tornado. But the cooler temperatures makes me want to be a "tornado" in my sewing/craft room and with my stash. Even got a phone call here at the shop from someone who is going to re-organize and straighten their own stash. But I need inspiration - go to our facebook page and tell us what you might do to organize your stash.

This Sunday is the 3rd Sunday of the month - If you are "Wool Crazy" then don't forget to come at 12:30 to work on your projects and ooh/aah at each others'.

We have a new "lil twister" pattern in, and we are making kits for it. You will want to see this one. It's an adorable wall hanging of a Christmas wreath made 'twister style'.

Also, Arts in the Alley is rapidly approaching! Saturday, September 18 from 10 to 8 and Sunday, September 19 from 11 to 5 are the hours. Yes! We will be open! And Yes! We will have an Arts in the Alley special. Don't forget to come in and see us while you are in the downtown area. Also remember to see all the beautiful quilts displayed at St. John's Lutheran Church on Columbus Street. Hours for the quilt show are Saturday, 10-9 and Sunday, 12-4:30. KyleAnn here. I don't know about you, but I am already scheduling appointments for next year (like the dentist, annual check-up, etc.) and I need a calendar to keep track of them. While I have a planner I carry in my purse, I keep one on the wall so my Mr. Wonderful and I see at a glance who has to be where and when. Did you hear that storm last night?

That storm was quite something. Very noisy! Incredible light show. But lots of rain to refresh lawns, flowers, and crops. Reminded me of the small Calendar Quilts by Kim Schaefer, like June's luscious watermelon and the picnic ants and August's honey bees buzzing around darling flowers. We are currently putting together kits for September (delicious apples!) and October (adorable pumpkin). Lots of quilt "themes" are affected by rain - think of all those floral prints, the star blocks, even pinwheels. Come in and get refreshed with these great wall-hangings and other quick projects.

Shop Hop was great! A lot of people enjoyed visiting the shop and discussing other shops they had seen. Remember to come in and use your Shop Hop coupon. It is now valid! It's good for 25% off one item or one cut of fabric!

We have two great kits from the book Happy Hauntings. One is the BOO! kit, which features three 6" x 10" quilts that spell the word "BOO!" The other is a cute witch, saying "What did you call me?" This wall-hanging is 24" x 30".

Nearly all the August Block of the Month kits are ready, and we are working on the one from Quilted Devotions. As usual, we have some great new books that are "must sees". Be sure to look at them when you pick up your BOM.

The Shop Hop is still going on!!!!!!!

OK, Mary is not here - she is Shop Hopping! Yay for her! I know I had a great time with 5 other quilters on Friday as we visited all the out-of-town locations. We then paired up on our own to finish the local shops another day. We made 2 whole days of it - Friday was a mini-van with the 6 of us. We had custom-made tote bags for each of us made by one of the girls, along with binders of patterns - and each binder had a beautiful custom binder cover. Another girl made each of us adorable pincushion turtles with removable/reversable shells. One made cell phone holders, and another made "Abby's Treasure Box" by This 'n That. We even scheduled 2 meals into our day. We had so much fun!

The Always in Stitches has been very busy, too, with the Shop Hop - thanks to all of you! We still have the Shop Hop special with 20% off charm square packs. Selection is getting low, so if you haven't been in yet, make a point to come in SOON!

Deb Rammelsburg made some AWESOME cookies for the Shop Hop preview party last week and there were many, many requests for the recipe. She has generously posted it on her website. Enjoy!!

We have some adorable new Halloween kits from the book, Happy Haunters, "brewed just for you by Kelly Mueller of the Wooden Bear". "Boo" is a set of three 'quilts', each approximately 6" x 10" and spelling out the word Boo. The other is a cute witch wall-hanging, "what did you call me?"

As always, we have some new books for you to check out. We've had lots of new fabric come in, but (THANK YOU!) it is going out of the shop nearly as quickly as it comes in. All the more reason to hurry over!

We are so excited, We have about 100 unfiinshed piles of stuff (aka kits, new inventory, unfinished projects, make it take its...) that need to be finished. It reminds me of Christmas eve.

Our PREVIEW PARTY on Wednesday, July 21. We will have two pretty-cool Make-It, Take-its; yummy food, and a ruler demo that you don't want to miss! Don't forget that we have special shop hours on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. all three days.

We have a bus that will drop you off at every shop leaving our shop on Saturday, July 24. There are only a couple of seats left. Time is running, out so hurry in to make your seat reservation.

Can you believe it's the 4th of July already? To allow all staff to celebrate, the shop will be closed Sunday, July 4th and Monday, July 5th. We *are* open Saturday from 10-4 as usual and will reopen on Tuesday at 10. Enjoy the parade, wave your American flag, watch the fireworks, celebrate!

Just in - new from Crab-apple Hill - Vintage Postcard. It's a pillow! Stitch (embroider) this 19" x 14" postcard pillow and you can personalize the card with your own handwritten message or use the vintage one provided. It would also look great framed!

KyleAnn is beginning another new knitting class, introducing lace knitting with the easier-than-it-looks Peggy Shawl by HeartStrings Fiber Arts. You need 1000 yards of #1, #2 or #3 (preferably #1 or #2) yarn. Pattern purchase required (either from instructor or your favorite local yarn shop); US Size 7 (4.5 mm) circular needle available from instructor. Stitch markers also used in this project. Once upon a time ...

So! Mary is not in the shop today, and she left Karen and KyleAnn in charge (is that a big mistake, or what!?) LOL While arranging books, we got to looking at some of the lonely books - single copies, I mean - and then were thinking about June being such a big wedding month. Everyone thinks about brides, weddings, photos, romantic getaways, honeymoons, "something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new." Well what about all those singles who aren't getting married, may not even be interested in getting married. So why not pair up with one of these poor lonely, single books so they won't be so miserable. I mean, look at some of these titles who are suffering because all their "friends/mates" are GONE! Come in and get one, and then get a second one half off. Of course, this story would then have a very happy ending and everyone will live happily ever after. Open a Can of Worms by Debbie Caffrey

While scheming about how to control smaller pieces of fabrics in the stash, I began to get side tracked about multiple fabric quilts, friendship quilts, and the popularity of charm square trading. All of these ideas have come together in this book, Open a Can of Worms, which is based upon 2 1/2" wide strips.

This book shows how many different ways you can dice a worm (a strip of fabric) to create fast and fun quilts. There are a few strip-pieced projects, but there are many more that use triangles and trapezoids for some fantastic, traditional quilts. Some quilts require setting pieces, such as sashing and borders, or a control background fabric, but aside from that, all pieces are cut from a collection of 2 1/2" wide strips.

It is a wonderful base for classes, teaching a variety of skills and techniques, including use of the Omnigrid 96 & 98 triangles. The triangle tools replace the need for templates.

You will be amazed at how much fabric this "stash cleaner" book will generate. While using what is on hand, quilters will want to add new fabrics to the old to liven up the quilt. Think about the amount of fabric required for backgrounds, sashing, borders, and backings!

And then, of course, there will be the need for batting, thread, triangle tools, new rotary cutter blades, and machine quilting services.

This Saturday is Race for the Cure. It is bittersweet that this will be the first year in a long time that we will not be running/walking as a team. My sisters, Terry and Bobbi (Bert) will be participating in the event this year in some capacity on our behalf. I will be attending my daughter Jordann's graduation from Xavier University instead. I am so proud of her acheivements. We will be back in action next year for the race.

People are continually asking us when the next "Granary" book will be out. I just wanted to let everyone know that we are working feverishly on getting that finished. We will keep you posted. In the meantime, if you are interested in a good book to read try Diana Forresters book "Glory"

April is almost over!

Wow,
It is really hard to believe that April is more than half over. We are busy getting ready for the May 1st Quilt Spree preview day. We have some make it take its planned and some demos planned. As always we will have yummy food and drink.

Mary and Deb have been working on some new wool bundles with awesome spring colors. Expect to see some cool wool projects early summer. For those of you who have not worked with wool you should really try it. It is so easy, and very forgiving.

Last weekend was a busy weekend for quilters in the Columbus Area. The James Stitching Sisters had over 170 quilters at their annual sew in. My sister Bobbi was there are said it was very moving. This is the first year in a long time that we missed this event. Also going on this weekend was the Columbus Metropolitan Quilters Quilt Show. We were vendors at this event and it was fun seeing everyone and all of the beautiful quilts. Here are some of the beautiful quilts that some of my friends made:

Hey everyone!
Sorry we were so focused on getting an email out and getting ready for the Columbus Metropolitan Quilters Quilt show this weekend that we forgot to post to the blog.

We have Amy Bradleys new quilt hanging in the shop. It is called Snow day, Sew Day. It is very cute!

On Friday I am vending at the Columbus Metropolitan Quilt Show at the Haimerl Center, 1421 Morse Road, Columbus 43229. On Saturday I am taking the day off to visit with my daughter and to watch her get honored for receiving a full scholarship for her senior year of college. The year has just flown by! I can't believe she is graduating already.

We will be back in action next week with new books and fabrics being posted.

Lights Camera Action!

Last night the Fat Quarters met for their April meeting. This was the meeting when everyone had to turn in the guild challenge. The theme this year was Lights, Camera, Action! and each participant was required to use polka dots in at least 30% of the challenge which was to measure no bigger then 18 x 22. All of the photos are on our facebook page. Check them out!

It is really fun see all of the entries and everyone's ideas.

Hey everyone,
We are moving up in the technology world! We are now on facebook - search for Always In Stitches Ohio and become a fan! We will try to keep you more updated on upcoming events, but don't forget to come in to the shop to register for classes, etc. Of course, we are just getting it started, so be patient with us.

One of the new books which just came in is Garden Song Art to Heart by Nancy Halvorsen.

KyleAnn's first sock class finished up - and all five participants completed their first sock! Enthusiams was high and, believe me, everyone had a lot of fun. Here are some pictures of each knitter modeling her own sock:

Wow, hasn't March flown by?? I am so ready for spring and warm weather. I would also love to get my sewing room cleaned and straightened out (Do you think it is going to happen?).

You'd think that after the retreat that the shop would be real quiet. NOT! We've been quite busy - thank you very much! And what with the upcoming Race for the Cure, area quilt shows, and shop hops - wow! We are getting new fabric in nearly every day and just can't keep it on the shelves! Classes are going well. Patty's Complete Quilting class is nearly finished for this session and the follow-up class, Start Quilting Sampler, will begin soon.

For those interested in hand-applique, THIS SATURDAY (at 1:00 pm) is a beginning applique class (2-part class) Call the shop now to register. Be sure you leave your phone number and/or email address for the instructor to contact you before class. Part 2 is April 10. Supplies list: Background fabric: 16" x 14-1/2"; vinyl (approximately same size); fabrics for leaves, ghreads to match; permanent marker and fabric markers, freezer paper, sandpaper board is a help, paper scissors, small sharp pointed scissors, small applique pins plus a few large ones, any flexible needle (the thinner the better), round toothpicks.

KyleAnn's sock class is nearly finished - it's so exciting to see those socks nearing completion and "modelling." The next knitting class is a learn-how-to-knit class that will teach not only beginners how to get started but, for those ready for 'the next step' will showcase a different stitch motif each week. Details are not yet worked out, but will be at least a 7-week session.

Applique Club and EQ6 Club are going strong, but there's always room for more.

We will try to focus on a class at least once a month and hopefully more often.

The retreat was awesome!

We had approximately 36 quilters spend the weekend with us at the Drury Inn for our first overnight retreat. I can safely say that "a good time was had by all." Several participated in the 911 Mystery by Debbie Caffrey and they are all strikingly beautiful. Participants arrived as early as 8:00 Friday morning and started sewing right away. People brought their own projects to work on and/or made projects designed for the retreat. There was lots of fun, fellowship, and food. Pictures should be uploaded soon. We are already planning our next one, so be watching for details in a few months.

Enough of this lion/lamb stuff - we SO can't wait till the retreat! It's going to be so much fun (and warm!) Lots of quilting opportunities (or bring your own projects), lots of fun door prizes, a Secret Sis swap, great fellowship, and hours and hours of dedicated sewing time. Not only will we have our monthly Mystery quilt, but we will do a Two-Hour Tulip Bag, the new Twister Table Runner or quilt, and adorable "Pot Pinchers." There will be a masseuse available for chair massages and a 20% off sale, including kits and patterns for all of the projects that will be previewed during the retreat, plus a scavenger hunt back at AIS. What do you bring to a quilt retreat? Besides your fabric for your project, of course. One of our customers, Karen Lane, wrote up a list of items, most of which she transports in a 5-gallon bucket - hence, Karen Lane's Bucket List. (Don't forget to label all items!!!!!)

TIP: Use same color ribbon to label your stuff and keep a list of what's IN your bucket so if you take stuff out, you can replenish before your next retreat.
